Seventeen motorcycles with riders in ages ranging from 37 to 77 years, living in California, Illinois, Mississipi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington, some passengers and a chase vehicle (nicknamed the Princess Van for the two wives in it) followed the aincient Silk Road from Istanbul to Xi'an passing through eight countries. Geri and Dean traveled through Central Asia from Turkey to Kazakhstan, Istanbul to Almaty, a distance of 4000 road miles.
The riders all rode their own GS (Dual-Sport) bikes delivered to Seattle and from there by container shipped to Istanbul, Turkey. My bike will be returned separately from Almaty, Kazakstan and the others by container from X'ian, China.
The tour was arranged with visas, accomodations, many meals, three staff members, and the route mapped and loaded into individual GPS devices on the handlebars of each bike. I used a Garmin model 276C.
